Experiencing Childhood
We all grew up reading books, but there are certain books that remind us of our childhood. It brings back our childhood memories and the feeling of being young and the times we had fun. When I see the illustrations of the children books I read as a child, it brings me back to the time I read them in my little classrooms, with my parents, with my friends. The visual illustrations are the reason why I still remember these books and sometimes I only remember the illustrations than the actual story.
With this idea, I asked some of my friends and peers: “What visual aspects do you still remember from these books from your childhood?” I included the responses in my interview zine as well as my archive website.
I started off with the archive website and created this interview zine. For the zine, it is more like a children’s book made with hard cover and thicker paper to resemble an actaul children’s book. The 3D aspect of this book also comes from the idea of a pop-up children’s book as well as wanting to invite the readers into the space of the illustrations to really experience childhood.
Then I created a promotional video for the interview zine. The video has playful elements that captures both the characteristics of the website and and the book.
